What are Ball Plungers used for?

Posted by D.P. on

Ball plungers have various applications in fixtures and fastening. There are plungers that can be held without applying great pressure. This allows you to install them in drilled holes without requiring too much precision in the drilling. This type of plungers have a tolerance of up to .008” (0.20mm).

Among its applications:

  • Position: On the one hand you have the ball plunger and on the other a slot or hole is made in which you will seat the ball of the plunger once it is centered.
  • Apply pressure: Either to activate a lever or stop on a tooth of a gear, the ball plunger can be used in these applications that require force of pressure.
  • Support: They also help to “push” the material so that it’s positioned at a certain point.
  • Braking: It helps to “Brake” the force applied to a piece.
  • Eject: In material forming applications, the ball plungers can help return the material for easy extraction.
  • Locking: Slots can be placed in different points that with the help of the ball plunger can keep the piece in a single place.
